As expected, the tidbits surrounding Apple's upcoming iPhone Fold have now transformed from a trickle into a veritable flood, with the latest supply chain leaks suggesting that the Cupertino giant plans to price the base storage version of the device at $2,325, and is targeting an initial production volume of 20 million units. The initial production volume target for the iPhone Fold is currently a subject of some debate.

We reported earlier this week that, as per the reporting by South Korea's 'The Bell,' Apple was targeting an annual shipment volume for the iPhone Fold that was less than 5 percent of the typical iPhone sales in a given year. For context, do note that Apple shipped 247 million iPhones in 2025. This meant that the Cupertino giant was expecting the iPhone Fold to clinch annual sales of less than 12 million units.

However, at around the same time, Taiwan's Economic Daily reported that Apple appears to have ordered a 20 percent hike in the targeted initial inventory of the iPhone Fold, benefitting Foxconn in its capacity as the device's primary assembler. Now, another Asian publication has jumped into this melee, reporting that Samsung Display would provide 20 million display panels to Apple for the iPhone Fold, marking a 20 percent increase relative to the previously forecast range of 13–15 million units.

Concurrently, the Weibo-based tipster Instant Digital has disclosed the expected pricing of the iPhone Fold in Yuan. By undertaking a currency conversion, we can now delineate the cost of the various memory configurations of the upcoming foldable: This comes as Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported recently that the iOS version on the iPhone Fold will sport "iPad-like layouts and side-by-side apps for the first time, enhancing the device’s appeal for multitasking." Also, the internal screen on the device is expected to be the size of an iPad, replete with a wider aspect ratio, while the outer screen would resemble "the size of the display on a small iPhone." This aligns with previous reports that had postulated a passport-like, wide form factor for the device.

Of course, given the plethora of apps that already support iPadOS, it should be a relative breeze for most developers to redesign their iPhone apps to cater to the iPhone Fold's form factor, especially when it comes to content viewing experience. Gurman did assert that the iPhone Fold will run the standard iOS version, replete with a simpler multitasking system instead of the more desktop-like UI introduced in iPadOS 26.

It also won’t run existing iPad apps out of the box. Even so, the iPhone Fold will be able to show two apps side by side. Apple is also tackling one of the biggest downsides to the existing foldables in the market right now: the visually disconcerting display crease. According to Gurman, Apple has managed to reduce the crease substantially without eliminating it entirely. We've already reported that, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily, the depth of the crease on the iPhone Fold would be a minuscule 0.15mm.

This would likely require a copious use of the Ultra-thin Flexible Glass (UFG) tech that Apple is said to have tested extensively, as well as a modified hinge mechanism made out of 'liquid metal.' According to Gurman, the iPhone Fold's external display will sport a small hole-punch cutout, albeit with the Dynamic Island UI for viewing notifications. Also, Apple has removed the Face ID system in its entirety and instead integrated Touch ID into the side button. As for the inner display, while Apple is still experimenting with an under-display camera, ongoing tests have only produced images with subpar quality, dramatically reducing the tech's probability of showing up on production-ready iPhone Fold units.

The device will also feature a dual rear camera setup, with previous reports alluding to a 48MP resolution for both cameras. Finally, do note that previous reporting has indicated that Apple plans to apply a color filter – called the COE or Color Filter on Encapsulation – onto the protective encapsulation layer of the iPhone Fold's OLED panel, rendering the resulting displays lighter and much more efficient.
