This 2002 Porsche Boxster S was purchased by the seller in November 2024, and it was serviced and modified for the next two years before being taken on a 3k-mile cross-country road trip. Work included applying a blue wrap over the Arctic Silver Metallic body, overhauling the suspension, replacing the IMS bearing, clutch, and axles, and installing a short shifter, a touchscreen stereo, a 986.2-spec muffler, and 18″ Carrera-style wheels.
The car was ordered with heated Black leather Sport seats, the SportDesign Package, xenon headlights, and a hi-fi sound system, and it is powered by a 3.2-liter flat-six paired with a six-speed manual transaxle. Now indicating 100k miles, this 986 Boxster S is offered at no reserve with the owner’s manual, service and modification records, a car cover, photos detailing the seller’s work and trip, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic under an Avery Dennison blue vinyl wrap that was installed in 2025. A black Robbins Auto Top convertible soft top with a glass rear window was installed in 2012, and the window was resealed in 2021. Additional features include a rear bumperette delete, Rennline carbon-fiber mirror caps, xenon headlights, all-red taillights, and headlight washer deletes.
The Carfax report notes an accident with another motor vehicle resulting in “moderate” damage in July 2005, as well as two adjacent entries in April and June 2014 noting “damage reported” and “damage repairs performed,” respectively. The windshield was replaced, and dents in the front and rear lids were removed in 2024. The windshield cowl was replaced, and the top drains and radiators were cleared in 2025.
The seller notes that the front bumper cover paint is rough, a rear window defroster connector is broken, and the wrap has imperfections at the edges. A video detailing the condition of the paint before the wrap was installed is provided in the video gallery. The 18″ Carrera-style wheels are mounted over Rennline spacers and were mounted with 225/40 front and 265/35 rear Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires in 2024.
Porsche Stability Management (PSM) was equipped from the factory. Work between 2024 and 2025 included installing Bilstein B4 dampers and M030-specification springs as well as replacing the strut mount hardware, axles, bump stops, dust boots, and brake rotors, pads, and sensors. The seller notes a squeak from the rear suspension. The heated Sport seats are upholstered in Black leather and complemented by SportDesign Package-specific trim.
A Ben Auto Design short shifter, Function First knob, and a GBox second-gear detent are fitted, and the shift cables were also replaced. The interior features a PLZ touchscreen infotainment system with a back-up camera, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity along with a wind deflector, cruise control, and a hi-fi sound system. Vinyl wrap has been applied to the center console and doors to cover worn trim, and bubbles in the wrap are visible primarily on the armrests.
The seller notes that if the car has sat for longer than a week, the alarm will sometimes sound when unlocking the door with the key. The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a central tachometer, a 180-mph speedometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 100k miles, approximately 6k of which were added under current ownership. The ignition switch, headlight switch, and turn signal stalk assembly were replaced in 2026.
The mid-mounted 3.2L flat-six was factory rated at 250 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque. The IMS bearing was first replaced with an LN Engineering unit in 2012, and records indicate that nearly $8k was spent in 2016 replacing the timing chain tensioners, oil cooler, and other components. Documentation for the LN Engineering IMS bearing is provided in the gallery below. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transaxle.
A 986.2-specification muffler is installed along with PRG Products transaxle mounts. The Carfax report notes the aforementioned accident, damage, and repairs. The car passed a California emissions test in February 2026. Interested to see what Car and Driver thought about the 986 Boxster S when it was new?
