“iOS 26: 5 Features You Need to Try First After Updating

Liquid Glass — The New Design Experience

  • This is iOS 26’s biggest visual change: glass-like, translucent UI elements (menus, dialogs, toggles) that subtly refract or reveal content behind them.
  • Try adjusting how pronounced the effect is by tweaking contrast and transparency in SettingsDisplay & Brightness. Sometimes the glass effect can make text harder to read, so you can tone it down.
  • Also test it in different lighting conditions: outdoors/in bright light vs indoor is where you’ll notice the trade-offs.

2. Lock Screen Customization Upgrades

  • The lock screen gets more flexible: frosted glass effect on the clock, adjustable size, and more widget positions.
  • Wallpapers now have “3D spatial effects” for certain images so that the subject can stand out from the background.
  • Also the Apple Music now playing screen on lock screen has richer visuals. If you listen to a lot of music, that’s a nice touch.

3. Smarter Photos & Media Browsing

  • The Photos app gets a redesign: tab bar navigation is back at bottom, and sections can be collapsed so you see what matters most.
  • With Liquid Glass, the overlay buttons (play/pause, filter, etc.) feel more integrated and elegant.
  • Also check out the updated Search / organization: faster access to photo types, albums, and better handling of large libraries.

4. Enhanced Messages & Communication Features

  • Messages now has in-chat polls, custom/AI generated chat backgrounds, group typing indicators. These make group chats more expressive.
  • Improved filtering of messages from unknown senders/numbers, things aimed at spam, etc. If spam messages bother you, spend time looking through the Message Filtering settings.
  • Call screening: unknown callers may have to provide a reason (in some locales) before the phone rings. Helps avoid nuisance calls.

5. Adaptive Power & Battery Management (for newer models)

  • iOS 26 introduces Adaptive Power mode, which uses AI / usage patterns to help extend battery life beyond what Low Power Mode does.
  • On newer iPhones (especially iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max and up), it adjusts brightness, background task handling, etc., more intelligently.
  • Also, check new options in SettingsBattery to see when Adaptive Power kicked in, whether you want notifications, etc
